The Metropole, Leeds
Opened in the late 1800's under the name Hotel Metropole, the hotel was the creation of local architects, Chorley, Connon & Chorley and provided a glittering new addition to Leeds.
A grade two listed building, the grandeur of the hotel attracted wealthy businessmen, traders, and upper-middle-class leisure seekers.
The porch formed the main entrance into the hotel from King Street, while a separate doorway at the rear of the ground floor was reserved for salesmen and staff.
Brief:
The brief for the refurbishment, was to retain the Victorian charm and embrace the history of the hotel, but to reimagine the interior for the modern traveller, embracing the vibrancy of the city in which it stands and creating an energy befitting of Leeds. Key to this refurbishment was the use of local suppliers, engaging Matthews Mee Interior Design from Wakefield, to help bring to their story to life. Skopos were part of the local team and excited to bring together a unique solution for window dressings, furniture, headboards and cushions for 125 bedrooms and some of the public area spaces.
Outcome:
Matthews Mee and Skopos worked together to come up with a sophisticated print solution for the bedroom curtains. A neat pencil-pleat curtain, with a blackout lining, the printed band skimmed over the top of the window sil and was backed by a Shantug sheer voile, for added privacy and warmth in the room.
Occasional seating was specified in Skopos new recycled boucle, Gaia, in the Mars colourway, to compliment seleted bed cushions with pops of pink and sky-blue.
Headboards in a Bespoke colourway of our antimicrobial Faux leather Kiri, gave a timeless, easy-care solution.
For the bedroom ottomon, Matthews Mee selected another colour of Gaia, in a green tone, to work alongside the carpet and gold tones in the hard case-furniture.
Other Areas:
The refurbishment project also saw the complete refresh of all the public spaces in the hotel and Skopos were pleased to work with the team on the meeting rooms and staircase areas. The Farne collection was specified in the Linen colourway with a beautiful blue border and matching pelmets to evoke a feeling of splendour on the grand landings . In the meeting rooms, Falun (from Northern Lights) was specified for curtains, tie-backs and pelmets. Finishing touches for the project were as important as the overall scheme.
Skopos were pleased to work with the hotel to provide a full-service offer: Design, Measure, Make-up and Install, meaning the full project was supported by the Skopos team through to sign off.
